What’s up with Dave

I am excited to announce that my manuscript, Choice of Dane: Portal One, is back from my kind, wonderful First Readers and is ready for my editor! It’s the first in my teen, young adult adventure series. It’s Goonies (or Stranger Things) meets time travel.

Dane is tired of his nagging parents, malicious bullies, and boring town. Until a storm rolls in on the cusp of Memorial Day weekend. And Dane accidentally learns his next-door neighbor is a mad scientist. Using ancient relics and futuristic technology, the old hermit has created—not one—but three time-traveling portals.

Dane and his gang of friends—the nerdy outcasts of Bear Creek Junior High—are the Chosen. The only ones able to activate and safely time travel through the portals.

Within the three-day weekend, the gang must escape a rogue militia, Men in Black vampires, and faceless aliens called Hive Tracers. Using their wits to solve riddles and outsmart the monsters, the first portal sends them to a deadly, mystical land. Where the gang must find an ancient artifact that will save all of humanity.

Not everyone will make it back home.

Current Project

The second in the series, Path of Dane: Portal Two, is also back from my First Readers, who in my opinion, are incredibly generous with their time. It is nearly ready for my editor.

Next Project

The third in the series, Gift of Dane: Portal Three is now with my First Readers.

The Beginning

It all started with a feature-length, psychological script I wrote. My wife and I decided to direct and produce the film ourselves. Beyond Doors didn’t make us millions, it wasn’t the next Blair Witch, but we were gifted with lifelong friends and the beginning of our successful production company: Soulbox Productions.

Meet Dave

David C. Baxter prefers flip-flops, tennis, an ocean breeze, and being called Dave. Unfortunately, he’s gluten intolerant, but he’s thankful it only took four years to find a gluten-free beer that tastes like the real thing. You can contact Dave at his business email: soulbox@soulboxproductions.com

He and his wife, Corbin, own a commercial and special event production company: Soulbox Productions. They share their home with two 18-pound cats.

Louis (pronounced Louie) is a large tomcat named after Brad Pitt’s dour character from Interview with the Vampire. He loves belly rubs, lying on our patio, and grooming his parents. Nickname: Panther Cub.

Fred (a.k.a. Pony Boy from the Outsiders) loves to lay under furniture and do whatever his brother is doing. His constant eye drip stains everything in the house. He’s obsessed with rubbing his face against his dad’s stubble. Nickname: Potato Chip.
